Kevin Windham ended his 19-year pro career on last night at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The veteran wrapped up his career with 19 wins, more than 200 Supercross starts (second on the career list), two Supercross Lites titles, and three runner-up Supercross points finishes. “I would love nothing more than to ride forever,” Windham said before making it official at rider introductions on Saturday night. “The choice (to retire) was going to be hard no matter when I did it.”

Defending Supercross champion Ryan Villopoto of Monster Energy Kawasaki made a definitive push for the points lead in Anaheim 2, getting to the front mid-race and holding to the checkers for his first race win of the season. Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard held steady in second, followed by Two Two Motorsports’ Chad Reed in third. “The season didn’t start like we wanted it to,” said Villopoto. “I had a decent race in Phoenix and the team made good changes to the bike this week. We’ve finally got the ball going in the right direction and are digging ourselves out of the hole. Once I got into the lead, I was just trying to click of the laps and keep it consistent. The track was really slippery tonight, but I still tried to keep the pace up.”

The 450 Supercross field is one of the most stacked in recent memory and the battle at Phoenix only served to reinforce that fact. Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia got a great start and ran out front early, building a lead which he was able to hold to the checkers, earning the first premier-class win of his career. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto battled his way through the pack to finish second, followed by Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps in third.

The list of X Games host cities will grow by three in 2013, as ESPN announced May 1 that Barcelona, Spain; Munich, Germany; and Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, have been chosen as X Games venues for the next three years. The new cities were selected from a group of nine finalists and will stage summer competitions through 2015. They join current hosts Aspen, Colo.; Tignes, France; and Los Angeles, creating a six-event (four summer, two winter) X Games schedule that will run from January to August in 2013.

Jake Weimer is the 2012 “King of Bercy”! Weimer was holding a safe second position with just two of the fifteen laps remaining when he slipped off his KX450F and had to quickly remount behind Justin Brayton. The former AMA Supercross Lites Champ Weimer then had to scurry to overtake his countryman in order to make sure Eli Tomac didn’t snare the crown in the closing stages of this sell-out racing extravaganza. Weimer hustled and bustled and found a gap to resume second spot on the last lap at the Omnisports Palais layout and sealed the deal.
